![]() Well, that is all I can think of for my car. A little tricky to replace, but I figured it out. The right side mirror LED blinker went out and had to be replaced. I have had to replace the parking lights and the license plate bulb a few time. NOTE: never use grease or any other lube as these will collect dust.Īnother thing that I have found sorta finicky is light bulbs blowing. Mercedes uses a special lube for this, which I have a bottle of, and do this myself. I will clean mine every once in a while to prevent this. This is because the safety sensor is very sensitive, and 2) if the track gets gummed up with dirt. 1) if it is cold out side and the seals are a bit stiff, it will usually push-back open when closing. Because I have been able to do these things myself, I feel the car has not cost me much in repairs.įor the problem with the sunroof: This is a common problem, and I too have experienced this with my own c230, but I usually know when it happens. Ever since, I have done all the maintenance myself (ie break job, oil changes) and just last week, a new thermostat (now at 61,000 miles). I purchased it used with 19000 miles on it in late 07. So 2006-2007 where the only years they used the 6cyl then in 2008 they changed to the new body and is now called the c300. This was the first year that mercedes used the 6cyl engine in this car. I look forward to learning a lot.ĭhatcher, I own a 2006 c230. If there are other common problems I haven't read about please do educate me. Seems like the V6 might have less of the oil problems though? I also haven't been able to quite figure out what years did the C230 come with the SC I4? I see some conflicting info using google between a 1.8L and 2.3L engine existing in the 2002-2005 models? If someone can help clear that up it would be great. I haven't heard or read much opinion between the supercharged 4 cyl or the NA V6. I'm not completely decided on which engine setup to get. ~Cam magnet/sensor leaking oil into wiring harness (is this easy to check by just removing that plastic cover or do you really have to undo those star bolts and look at the connectors to find out? ~Sunroof not automatically closing all the way (tends to open back up slightly) So far I've found I believe what are the most common things: I have been searching the forums first as I know that's usually the first thing recommended on car forums I want to know what to look for when I test out cars at dealerships. So I'm hoping to find out more info about the common problems of the W203 before I buy. I owned a BMW M3 (E36) before and the repair bills were god awful but, I think that was also mostly because I bought a bum one with accident damage I didn't know about because I was younger and stupid. I like the styling and features of the C230 a little bit better but am fearful of repair bills with the german car. My wife and I have been looking to get a 2nd car and its pretty much down to either a used IS300 or a used C230. I’m pretty tight on cash so I’m hoping to not spend a lot to diagnose and to be able to fix it myself.I'm new around here and I've been doing a bit of research on the W203 model C230. Now I suspect faulty wiring or SAM but also wonder if it could all be tied into the positive battery cable issue I suspected was the original culprit of the alternator or something completely different. I also checked the bulb’s sockets and they aren’t getting any power. I put in a parking and blinker bulb, but that didn’t fix it. I went to replace the lights in back (when I bought it I thought it was just one blinker and a brake light) and Noticed that I only had one blinker on passenger side and a parking light and brake light on driver side working, no reverse at all. Now I wanted to get it ready for a safety inspection since I just bought it. Since it starts beautifully (until the battery dies) I assumed that it was a break in the wire or that fuse after the starter so I put a wire directly from the battery to the alt and it solved the issue. I read that the positive Battery cable runs from the battery > starter > alternator. ![]() ![]() ![]() After further inspection I realized there was no voltage going to the alternator through the cable. I jumped to conclusions because the battery wasn’t charging and I put in an alternator. I have a 2005 c230 and I had an alternator/battery visit workshop message.
